Anastasia - Spring 2023
Tuck Everlasting - Fall 2022
Advanced Musical Theatre:
AMT auditions happen in the late spring for the next school year. All information regarding AMT and the auditions is below.
AMT is for intermediate/advanced 9th-12th grade students. If you would like to work at a higher level, we encourage you to audition.
about the audition:
Your audition should include a 1-minute monologue and a 1-minute (or less) song - approximately 16-32 bars of music. Please bring your own backing track. We will have a speaker you can bluetooth or plug into. You will also be asked to match pitches with a piano. There will be practice rooms available for warming up.
If you have already been in AMT, you do not need to re-audition.
about your audition materials:
Songs should be from Musical Theatre and monologues should be from a published play or musical. You will need to slate (introduce your piece) telling us your complete name, grade, name of song you are singing, composer of song and the musical it is from. You will need to tell us the play/musical your monologue is from, the playwright and the name of the character you are playing.
These pieces should be memorized, performance-ready and show you off! Choose material that you feel good presenting and performing. Perform it for family or friends in advance of your audition.
who should audition for AMT?
Advanced Musical Theatre is for intermediate and advanced students who wish to work at much more challenging level, on longer pieces of theatre and put a significantly larger amount of time into the process. It is not for everyone and it is not for every family. The time and effort involved are significant.
If you struggle with matching pitch, AMT is probably not a match for you at this time.
All students are welcome to continue in Developing Artists through 12th grade.
Is AMT right for you?
We have many levels of theatre at Edmonds Heights
If you are in 9th-12th grade and really want to be an actor or work at a higher level AND have done shows outside EH or have taken classes in other performance-based art-forms (ex. Voice, vocal coaching, dance, acting) either at EH or elsewhere (ex. Taproot, Village, Seattle Children’s Theatre) AND want to work harder/more hours then AMT may be right for you.
Placement into AMT will be by audition.
AMT time commitment
AMT meets 2 times per week for 3 hours each time - a total of 6 hours per week, plus several evening and weekend rehearsals. The semester ends with slightly more than a week of evening and weekend rehearsals and two weeks of performances. Approximately family rehearsal time commitment 100-120hrs. Family volunteer commitment: 12 hrs
Am I good enough? Am I ready?
To be in AMT you must be in High School - grades 9-12. We have set these guidelines as to skills and experience that are recommended before auditioning for AMT. This list is not meant to frighten or dissuade, but, to give benchmarks and achievable goals. All students going in 9th-12th grade are welcome to audition. You do not have to be polished - but you must be ready to work very hard toward being excellent. Please note: Advanced Musical Theatre *is* advanced and the work will be difficult and challenging. Because of this, you must have prior experience performing in musical theatre. If you do not, we recommend that you register for Developing Artists which serves students in 7th-12th grades.
If you are already an EH student - Minimum of one year in Developing Artists (2 shows) and at least 2 other shows.
Incoming high school students - Minimum of one-semester Developing Artists or comparable/equivalent previous experience (school or other theatres) AND
