Across war-time Germany, working-class teens who bristled at the requirement to attend Hitler Youth meetings gathered in informal groups known as Edelweiss Pirates. Their activities weren’t originally political; they went for hikes, sang songs forbidden by the Nazis, and tried to stay kids as long as they could. As the war progressed, though, they came to realize silence was complicity. But what could a group of teenagers do against the reich? Never underestimate teenagers faced with injustice.
